At NN Group, part of being a good corporate citizen means we use our resources, expertise and reach to help society achieve long-term, sustainable prosperity. Through our Community Investment programme, ‘NN Future Matters’, we collaborate with charitable partners such as Junior Achievement Europe. A recent example is a joint initiative of NN Bulgaria and Junior Achievement Bulgaria.
Personal Finance: Introduction
NN Bulgaria aims to raise the level of financial literacy in the country. At a special event on 12 February, attended by rectors of universities, financial experts, current and former Finance ministers, NN Bulgaria, together with Junior Achievement Bulgaria, presented the first textbook ‘Personal Finance: Introduction’ for students in non-economic specialties. The textbook aims to help young people understand, plan and manage their personal finances more skillfully, which would make them more successful and happier.
The financial education of students will start at six universities during the summer semester of the 2017/2018 academic year, as well as in the winter semester of 2018/2019. The long-term goal of the project is to introduce and validate the discipline of personal finance at higher education institutions in Bulgaria, following the example of a number of universities around the world.
The content of ‘Personal Finance: Introduction’ will be taught by trained university lecturers. By mid-2019, they will have provided theoretical knowledge and practical skills to at least 600 students. An important part of the learning process will be the participation of NN Bulgaria employees, who will be volunteer their time to provide open lectures on practical themes and case studies related to the management of personal finances.
Comprehensive joint programme
In addition, a financial competition camp will be organised by Junior Achievement, with NN Bulgaria volunteers joining as mentors and jury.
The creation of the textbook ‘Personal Finance: Introduction’, funded by NN Bulgaria, is only a first step in a comprehensive joint programme with Junior Achievement Bulgaria. The programme will continue with training for lecturers, open lectures for students, and long-term validation of a new discipline to be offered to students in higher education institutions in 2018/2019.
