NN Group signs financial sector commitment to Dutch ‘Klimaatakkoord’

Today the financial sector endorsed the commitment to the Dutch Klimaatakkoord (Climate agreement) that was launched during a ceremony attended by the Dutch Minister of Finance, Wobke Hoekstra. The commitment was signed by the four associations and by representatives of the individual financial institutions.

‘Het Klimaatakkoord’ aims to reduce to greenhouse gas emissions with 49% by 2030 (compared to 1990). It concerns all sectors of the Dutch economy and society, and requires the support from, and collaboration with, all stakeholders.

Sustainable solutions for the energy transition

By signing this commitment, the financial sector supports the energy transition and the offering of sustainable financial solutions. Furthermore, signatories should measure the carbon footprint of their relevant investments and explore measures - exclusion, engagement and/or the offering of sustainable products - to contribute to the transition towards a low carbon economy.

Underlining NN’s approach

CEO of NN Group, Lard Friese: ‘In line with our pledge to the Paris Agreement, we sign this Dutch commitment on behalf of NN Group, which includes Nationale-Nederlanden and NN Investment Partners. Making the transition to a more sustainable world is a complex task and one that we cannot accomplish on our own. The commitment underlines our efforts in the areas of responsible investing and insurance, our carbon footprint and the scenario analyses that we perform to better understand climate related risks.’

‘From an asset management perspective, through our investments, we can help to make the world more sustainable for the future. We will continue to engage with companies and offer sustainable investment solutions to our clients’, adds Satish Bapat, CEO of NN Investment Partners.
