Nationale-Nederlanden launches national Work-related Stress Survey

The Week of Work-related Stress started yesterday in the Netherlands. In the run-up to this week, nearly 2,500 employees took part in a survey, largely from sectors known to suffer high absenteeism due to stress: education, IT and healthcare.

Stress is the main cause of absenteeism in the workplace. Half of all survey respondents said they experience stress in their work to some extent, with as many as 1 in 5 experiencing a lot of stress. The difference between full-time and part-time employees in the survey is striking. People who work less than 24 hours a week experience significantly less stress than those who work between 32 and 40 hours a week.

Various factors have an effect on the experience of work stress. In the three sectors of the survey, employees consistently indicate that a different work atmosphere creates the largest benefits when it comes to stress reduction. An open culture, trust and helpful colleagues contribute to this, among other things. The survey also shows that limited growth opportunities for very specific groups are an important cause of stress.

The National Work-related Stress Survey was set up and carried out in collaboration with Crunchr. Crunchr is an innovative tech company that specialises in HR data analysis. In cooperation with Crunchr, Nationale-Nederlanden also makes the latest developments in the field of workforce analytics available to entrepreneurs in the SME/mid-corporate segment. The first conclusions from the National Work Stress Survey can be downloaded.  (Dutch only)
