Make IT Work programme helps NN colleagues into an IT career

At NN, we empower colleagues to be their best. That is why, in partnership with the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, we offer our colleagues the chance to re-train as an IT professional with an exclusive five-month course.

Practical trajectory

Participants will undertake vocational studies in IT specialisms such as Software Engineering, Business & Data Analytics, and Security. After completing the full-time course at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, colleagues will receive a Bachelor’s-level (HBO) certificate as a qualified IT professional, and can step into an exciting new function in our IT organisation.

The partnership was launched in 2019, and since then 23 people have completed the programme, of which 87% found a new position in our organisation.

Former participant Sabine said of the programme: 'We are learning a basis for programming, which will help us to master the programmes and languages that are used within NN. Programming is mainly learned by doing. By combining my previous work experience at NN and what I've learned in the programme, I hope to be a valuable asset to my new team as well as to deliver sustainable and high-quality software together.'

An attractive sector

The IT sector is in need of talented professionals, and a growing number of functions are expected to require IT skills in the future. NN is committed to attracting IT talent from within and outside our company, with the support of initiatives such as the Make IT Work programme. Earlier this year, we also launched a programme with the Hogeschool Utrecht to enable our existing IT colleagues to obtain a post-HBO diploma, accelerating their career.
