Fan and proud partner of NN North Sea Jazz 2019

The 2019 NN North Sea Jazz festival took place on 12, 13 and 14 July in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This year was the second edition for NN as the proud partner of this festival. For three days, over 75,000 guests enjoyed around 150 performances over 14 stages. As well as jazz, NN North Sea Jazz offers funk, soul, hip hop, pop and world music. Among this year’s headliners were Jamie Cullum, Gladys Knight, Burt Bacharach, Diane Krall, Joe Jackson, Janelle Monae, Ms Lauryn Hill and Toto.

Music matters to many people. That is why we are a fan and proud partner of the NN North Sea Jazz festival. We asked the visitors of the festival what music means to them.

A new initiative for this edition was the online inspiration tool for visitors. This tool, designed and built by the Retail Commerce team of Nationale-Nederlanden, was promoted through a social media campaign. The inspiration tool solved a problem for many festival visitors: due to the enormous number of performances, visitors quite often suffer from stress caused by too much choice and the fear of missing out.  After answering four light-hearted questions, a suggested roadmap for each festival day was presented for five different festival types, ranging from the ‘I want to party’ to the ‘Keep it relaxed’ type. Over 15,000 people completed the tool on the landing page www.nn.nl/northseajazz . As well as the inspiration tool, the nn.nl page published several blogposts about sustainability at the festival, preventing hearing damage at concerts and tips for Rotterdam, with the content repeated across Facebook and Instagram advertisements.

For the second year in a row, Nationale-Nederlanden supported a collaboration with our cultural partner the Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam. The pop-up exhibition ‘Lust for life’ featured 25 colour photographs by famous Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken. The pop-up exhibition in the central square of the festival was visited by around 7,000 festival goers. This initiative contributes to our aim of making the museum’s collection more accessible to new audiences.
