NN Group takes an integrated approach to reporting. The 2020 Annual Report consists of two parts: the Annual Review and the Financial Report. The Annual Review contains various elements from the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) framework, such as the value creation model and a materiality matrix. This report strives to present relevant information about NN's strategy, governance, performance and future prospects in ways that are relevant to the economic, environmental and social contexts in which it operates. The information and data in the 2020 Annual Review is prepared in accordance with the Standards (Core) of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). While NN Group does not apply the SASB guidelines in preparing its Annual Report, this table provides an additional guide for investors, referencing the disclosure metrics under the SASB guidelines to NN's 2020 disclosures, where available and applicable.
Our policies and practices are regularly assessed by independent organisations. Below an overview of how they rate NN Group.
|S&P Global||NN Group is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), both the World and Europe index. We rank amongst the top 10% of our sector with regards to our sustainability performance. In the 2020 assessment, we scored 84 (out of 100), compared to an industry average of 39.|
|FTSE4Good||NN Group is included in the FTSE4Good Index Series that recognises the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. As per July 2020, we score a 5 (out of 5).|
|MSCI||NN Group is awarded an "AA" rating with US-based MSCI in June 2020.|
|ISS ESG research||In 2019, ISS ESG research – formally known as Oekom, rated NN Group with an overall grade of C+ (Prime). Prime status means that we fulfil ISS ESG’s demanding requirements regarding sustainability performance in our sector.|
|Sustainalytics||In June 2020, global responsible investment research firm Sustainalytics granted NN Group an ESG Risk Rating of 18.6 (low risk). NN holds a 12th position out of 256 insurers.|
|CDP||Every year, we participate in the CDP climate change questionnaire. In 2020, we improved our score to "A-".|
|ShareAction||In ShareAction’s global ranking of insurance companies on responsible investment and underwriting focusing on the themes of climate change, biodiversity and human rights, NN Group received a BB ranking (ratings from AAA ‘highest grade’ to E) in 2021. Furthermore, NN was placed 4th out of 31 insurers with a property and casualty business.|
Dutch sustainability ratings
|VBDO||The Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (VBDO) publishes a Benchmark Responsible Investment by Insurance Companies. In the 2019 edition, NN was ranked in joint third place in the benchmark (out of 29 insurance companies in the Netherlands).|
|The VBDO also publishes a Tax Transparency Benchmark that focuses specifically on corporate disclosure of tax procedures and practices. In the 2020 benchmark, NN Group ranks first place (out of 77 Dutch listed companies) for the second consecutive year.|
|Transparency Benchmark||The Dutch Transparency Benchmark is carried out by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 2019, this benchmark introduced a new methodology. NN Group score of 50% (out of 100%) represents a 78th position out of 240 companies.|
