Vision & strategy

At NN, we believe our company is strongest when we embrace the full spectrum of humanity. Recognising each person’s uniqueness and appreciating the value we all bring empowers us to succeed as individuals, as teams, and as a company. In our view, embedding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in our company enhances decision-making, promotes innovation, and improves business performance. It boosts employee engagement and is part of our broader commitment to creating sustainable long-term value for our stakeholders.

Our approach to DEI is simple. We embrace everyone and encourage our colleagues to bring their whole selves to work. We aim to deliver an inclusive customer experience, promote equal opportunities within our communities, and engage with our business partners and investee companies to uphold diverse, inclusive, and equitable practices.

To achieve our ambition, we address DEI within our various roles and across our key stakeholder groups:


  • Employees - provide an inclusive and diverse work environment where our employees can bring their whole selves to work
  • Customers - provide our customers with an inclusive customer experience
  • Communities - consider a DEI lens in NN Group’s contributions to society

With respect to other stakeholders in our value chain, we encourage them to uphold diverse, inclusive, and equitable practices for their workforce.

Diversity targets

People target

We have formulated several DEI related targets, some for internal guidance, others as metrics that we report on externally. When it comes to these external targets, we have committed ourselves to the following:


  • Target of ≥ 40% women and ≥ 40% men in Senior Management positions for NN Group N.V. by 2025 defined as NN Group N.V.’s Management Board, managerial positions reporting directly to the Management Board, and managerial positions reporting directly to the CEOs of NN Non-life, NN Bank or the CEOs of the NN International business units.

  • Target of ≥ 40% women and ≥ 40% men in Senior Management positions for NN Group N.V. by 2028 defined as NN Group N.V.’s Management Board and managerial positions in the two levels below.

  • Target of ≥ 40% women and ≥ 40% men for NN Group N.V.’s Executive Board, Management Board and Supervisory Board, and the management and supervisory boards and senior management (management teams) of NN Group companies in scope of the Dutch Act on gender diversity in boards of large companies.

Above target: at the end of 2024, 41% of senior management positions in NN Group were held by women.

Our yearly overviews of diversity, equity and inclusion at NN share our mission, progress and diversity figures. The data and information traditionally included in the DEI overview have been incorporated into the NN annual report from 2023 and onwards.

Employee resource groups

We cultivate and harness our ERGs to support our DEI strategy and to champion inclusivity within NN by advocating for the unique needs of our diverse workforce. Our ERGs are comprised of passionate colleagues who act as ambassadors of DEI within NN. At NN, we have six ERGs representing five dimensions of gender, cultural diversity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity and generations.

Our ERGs are closest to the employees and have the ability to sense check sentiment on the work floor. Our ERGs are voluntary, self-organised and employee-led groups creating activities serving the needs of our colleagues.

Our NN ERGs have allocated working time to focus on achieving the following goals:


  • Creating a sense of belonging - enable colleagues to connect, engage and grow in their personal and professional endeavors.
  • Fostering safe spaces - for colleagues with shared identities, purposes, or backgrounds to come together.
  • Creating awareness - for colleagues across the organisation around the dimension to understand the challenges and opportunities.
  • Championing change - support the DEI vision and advocate for equity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Promoting allyship - welcome colleagues from other groups to create awareness and promote allyship and support.

Our NN Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

NN Pride

NN Pride aims to connect people in the LGBTQIA+ community, raise awareness about LGBTQIA+ matters at NN, and promote a diverse workplace. All year round NN Pride organises events and activities aimed at networking, education, and the celebration of diversity.

NN Young Professionals

NN Young Professionals is a vibrant ERG that empowers, develops, and connects other generations to the Young Professionals of NN (age < 35). We empower NN Young Professionals during various social and developmental events.

NN Cultural Diversity

NN Cultural Diversity fosters respect and acknowledgment of cultural differences in our company and diversity of thought. They promote healthy discussions on topics of cultural diversity and a multi-cultural workplace.

NN Neurodiversity

NN Neurodiversity focuses on creating a safe environment to discuss invisible cognitive differences. Their mission is to break down barriers, foster understanding, and celebrate the unique strengths that neurodiverse perspectives bring.

NN Women in Leadership

NN Women in Leadership empowers female employees to own and influence their professional growth by holding events including discussions, knowledge-sharing, and mentoring programmes. Their activities support the growth of female talent within NN.

NN Women in IT

NN Women in IT aims to provide a safe and supportive community for women in tech with the goal of supporting more gender diversity. They create spaces for women to share experiences, seek advice, and help each other grow via workshops, mentorship and networking events.

Recognition & Awards

In 2024, we were recognised for our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through indices and reputational measures.

Europe’s Diversity Leaders

The Financial Times and data intelligence platform Statista released their sixth annual list of Europe's Diversity Leaders. Out of 850 companies included in the survey, NN Group (NN) secured the ninth place.

Equileap

Equileap ranks public companies on gender equality. Their Gender Equality Scorecard includes 19 criteria, which evaluate companies on the gender balance of the workforce, senior management and board of directors, as well as any pay gap, parental leave and sexual harassment. NN Group ranks first place in their report Gender Equality in the Netherlands 2024.
